Visiting Izembek National Wildlife Refuge
A globally significant migration corridor at your doorstep.
Izembek protects one of the largest eelgrass beds on the planet. During fall migration, nearly the entire world population of Pacific black brant stages here.
You'll also see emperor geese, Steller's eiders, brown bears, caribou and the occasional wolf. The refuge is open year-round — access is best by vehicle from Cold Bay.
